A debt forgiven

We do not have a lot money-wise, but Lord has been good to us. We’ve volunteered weekly in prison ministry for 5 years at the prison approx. 24 miles from our home. Last year my husband suddenly went into the hospital for a week & was diagnosed with congestive heart failure – we’re not insured. We have faithfully made payments on the debt owed to the hospital and the cardiologist, etc. trying to be responsible and good stewards. My husband now is on (5) regular daily medications that treat his condition & he is doing well – Praise God!. The Lord recently laid it on our hearts to forgive a $1500.00 debt owed us by someone we had helped out & who has been struggling for quite a while. God impressed on us that this would be a burden lifted for this person. (2) days after informing this person that the debt was forgiven, my husband came home to a message on our answering machine from the Hospital. They were in receipt of our last 2 checks & were sending them back. They said they had reviewed his account and qualified it for charity and written it off – there was no longer a balance. My husband played it back 3 times before calling me at work & telling me about it. I told him I had to go – I couldn’t breathe. I just sat there & stared at the computer monitor with tears running down my face & said, “Lord, I can’t believe it. Not that I can’t believe You are able, but rather I can’t believe You, the God of all creation would choose to bless ones such as us in this way.” When I got home that evening, my husband had me listen to the message to make sure he didn’t misunderstand. I replayed it 2 times to make sure I was not hearing it wrong. We received the checks along with a note in the mail this last week. The thing is, we never applied for assistance – so why they reviewed it? – “Lord only knows”. We give HIM all the praise & glory for HIS generosity towards us. It certainly was nothing we deserved nor earned, but simply & purely His grace. The debt forgiven – it was over $31,000. You can’t out give Him. Whatever we have, belongs to Him anyway – He has earned it…..so give & forgive freely, as He has given through the “paid in full” gift He has through His Son, Jesus Christ.
