An officer and an envelope

As a Law Enforcement Officer here in Baldwin County I come in contact with people in need on a regular basis. I felt confident the moment I was handed this envelope to hold until I met its rightful owner, I would likely be on duty when this occurred. The envelope, which I never opened, has been in my patrol car for nearly three weeks; until tonight. This evening, June 12th., we responded to a juvenile complaint. (I will not mention the location of the incident, what Department I work for or the names of the people involved). While speaking with the juvenile & her legal guardian the Lord immediately impressed upon my heart to give the envelope to the lady before I left.
I never would have expected the recipient to be this person due to the lengthy history that my Agency has had with her family. In the past we have had to fight other members of this family in addition to dealing with multiple complaints that were completely unfounded. There was no doubting the Lord’s instructions though. This poor lady has had a very difficult time raising several children that are not her own, with little to no gratitude from other family members. On top of being out of work & on a fixed income, their problems tonight began when she learned of the juvenile taking money out of her bank account & causing her to bounce several checks. In order to be partially reimbursed by the bank she would have to prosecute the juvenile. I was thankful that she was not going to take this route, even though we could have taken enforcement action on her behalf.
I did not want to give the envelope to her in front of my partner as he would not have understood & would surely have questioned my actions. Thankfully, he left the scene before I did, which gave me the opportunity the walk her back to her car. As we were walking past my patrol car I asked her to wait for just a moment so I could give something to her. I explained what had happened at church three weeks ago & that as she & I were talking moments before the Lord instructed me to give this to her. She was overwhelmed & deeply grateful. She was thanking Jesus out loud as I was finishing up what I needed to say to her. She does not have a church home & asked me to give her directions to Bay Community. I hope to see her here one Sunday morning in the near future.
Many times in my career I have known that it was preordained for me to be the Police Officer who answered a specific call for service. This was certainly one of those very special occasions & I am so thankful & deeply humbled that the Lord of all creation would pick me for this task. Thank you Father. May my actions always honor You.
