It was time
One afternoon late last week my neighbor (an occupational therapists) and I (a registered nurse) went for a walk. As we approached our homes, we began talking to a couple who were hired to do lawn work for a neighbor. As we talked, the wife told us that three weeks prior her husband was hospitalized for having an emergency condition that lead to his admission to the ICU for several days. He mentioned that they had just received their first bill for the administration of blood that totaled $4,900. We knew that this would be just the beginning of their medical bills from his trip to the hospital. She shared with us that they had been together since childhood along with several significant stories of their lives together. Along with discussing his recent health problems, she mentioned that they do lawn service and house hold maintenance for a ‘reasonable’ price (practically half of what others charge). It was at this time that I had an overwhelming feeling that “it was time”. So I walked to my house, retrieved the unopened envelope and handed it to her. I proudly told the couple that I attend Bay Community Church and Sunday everyone received an envelope to give when led by the Lord. I told her that I prayed the contents would bless them and invited them to service. She responded by sharing with us her testimony and that they had strayed from the church in the past few years. Shortly after this, the husband insisted they continue to their next appointment. The next day I share this story with another member in the church who was moved. A few days later, an anonymous envelope was sent to their home address with the money.
