Hello Bay Community

I got all the letters from all those people from church and I figured the best way to respond and let people know how much they mean to me and my guys is to write you. A little background on myself for the people who will one day meet me and the old friends that will be catching up with me. I grew up in south Alabama going to Bay Community. I was there when the church was built. I can remember hurting myself playing basketball at the old church and Melanie Taylor running out to momma’s car with a bag of frozen popsicles for the pain haha!! Anyways, I ended up moving to Silverhill, going to Central Christian. I got really big into sports, and had multiple opportunities to go play college soccer or baseball. But instead I started hanging out with the wrong crowd doing all the wrong things at all the wrong times and places. I look back now and remember all the things I used to do and I actually thank God for keeping me out of trouble for all those years. I feel like God wanted me to learn from my mistakes on my own. The opportunity is always there

I was in the grocery store today with my two year old grandson getting ready to check out, because my grandson was beyond tired and was fussing. As I was getting ready to unload my groceries something told me to look behind me and see if the person behind me had  less groceries than my overflowing cart, because I would have course let them go ahead. Sure enough there was an elderly couple behind me with like ten items in their basket. I told them to please go ahead. Very sweet couple, they were Oriental and did not speak English well, but they understood what I was saying and proceeded to get in front of me. I told the cashier to please add their groceries to mine and I would pay for it all. Read more »

For real?

I stopped by my local Brunos one evening on the way home from work to buy coffee.  As I waited in line I noticed the cashier had a look of discontent on his face (probably was wishing he was somewhere else, as we are all guilty of from time to time).  The gentleman behind me was standing with his head down staring at a credit card in his hand.  As I paid for my coffee, I heard God’s voice (spirit to spirit, of course) say “pay for his groceries”. So before the Cashier hit the total button I told him to add the gentleman’s groceries behind me to my order and I would pay for all of it.  The cashier stepped backward and said loudly “For REAL?” I replied yes as I handed the man behind me the Just Because card. Personal shopper

I work in Midtown Mobile right across the street from the Midtown Winn-Dixie, and it is most convenient for me, the days I don’t actually get a lunch hour, to hop across the street and grab something there. Almost every time I go, there is an elderly woman shopping in the produce section with, who I assume is her home health aide. Read more »

I’ve been in her shoes

My best friend called me one day to tell me that she would be adding three more kids to their family. Her sister in law could not afford to take care of them. I was excited for my friend because she has a passion for children (We met working together in childcare). A week later she got the news that her sister in law couldn’t live that far away from her kids. She lives in South Carolina. It broke my friends heart that she wasn’t going to help out. Read more »

Not forgotten

For Valentines Day the Outreach Department and the Icon Staff partnered together and delivered baskets to local high schools and middles schools in Mobile and Baldwin County.  I had the opportunity to deliver to the two schools in Mobile: Burns Middle and Baker High School.  As I delivered the basket at Baker the receptionist began to tear up thanking us for remembering them.  She said it was the nicest thing a church had ever done for their school.  She thanked me and then placed the basket where all the teachers could see it. At Burns the receptionist was just as blown away.  She said how awesome it was to know that they were thought about.  She said that she felt as though teachers and school staff are often forgotten and not appreciated for all they do for today’s youth. Since that day both schools seem to view the Icon staff as family. Giving us free reign of their facilities and encouraging us to spend time with their students!

Jesus Loves Me

You know, I know the Lord is always going before us to make a road for His plans, and I love when I get to see those times. About 2 months ago, the Lord spoke to me one night about ordering a bunch of copies of a book that I had read over 25 years ago, and is now out of print. I found the ministry site and was able to get 100 copies  of this  book, simply titled “Jesus Loves Me”.  I had no idea what the Lord wanted me to do with these, and still don’t see the full extent, I am sure. But part of the picture is in focus and it has to do with “Just Because”.   Read more »

An urge to do something

On Wednesday morning I was on my way to Montgomery with a few fellow employees to the Woods Auction to drop off some equipment to sale from my father’s company. We stopped off at Denny’s just short of our exit to get a bite to eat, and to fuel up. Just as we were about to finish eating there was a group of 4 military people that walked in and sat down beside us. At first I did not think anything of it, but as time went on there was an urge for me to do something. Read more »

A Chick-Fil-A kind of day

Monday morning I was driving to work enjoying my worship music and trying to decide if I’d go by Chick-Fil-A for breakfast. As I made a left turn to go into the mall, I heard a small voice tell me to look into my rearview mirror. I noticed a maroon van make the turn also. I really didn’t think much about it until I made a right turn into the mall and the van did also. I thought, well, someone works in here and I kept driving. I glanced into my rearview again as I made a left to get to Chick-Fil-A and noticed she did the same. At that point I said to myself , if she turns in to Chick-Fil-A…..and before I could finish she turned. I didn’t understand why I was so intrigued about this particular van making every turn I did then it hit me!!! This was my chance!!! This woman was about to be ‘just becaused’!!! Read more »

A Helping Hand

My family and I were driving through the parking lot of Target when I saw a very pregnant woman
loading a cart full of items into her car. I told my husband to stop and let me out, and I went to
unload her cart for her. I saw she had a toddler in the car, too, and I told her that I had
been where she was and unloading a cart was the least I could do to make her life just a little easier.

The Act of Giving

It is a great joy when God shows you little hidden treasures that we over look in our busy lives. The first card I used was at a drive-thru at McDonalds. I paid for the car behind me, and as I told the cashier what to do with the card I realized the look on her face; she was so full of joy to do that for me, she said you have a blessed day too. I think when we share God’s love it just spreads, I am going to buy her lunch one day too. I am believing the Love of God will be shed abroad in a lot of hearts through this.. AMEN and let it be so.
